Philomena Begley has been right at the top of the Irish Scene for a very long time. Philomena comes from Pomeroy Co Tyrone. Philomena is much more than a singer of good songs Philomena is a symbol of all things positive and enriching in Country And Irish Music. There is no doubt that Philomena is a professional who possesses magic which is a star quality. To date she is every bit as popular today as she was 30 years ago and can certainly entertain the audience, her personality certainly shines through.
Philomena started out with the Old Cross Céilí Band singing mostly traditional folk songs but has never been afraid to explore other genres of music knowing that if she liked it she definitely could sing it with passion.
Philomena Begley first sang on stage aged only 15 and has now been the acknowledged Queen of Irish country music for over 30 years. She has made many recordings, including the most popular version of “Blanket on the Ground”. Philomena has also been the guest of honour at the New York St. Patrick’s Day Parade and performed at the Albert Hall, Carnegie Hall, and the Grand Ole Opry.
Some of you will recall in the early days Philomena teamed up with Ray Lynam as a duet which proved very popular.
Philomena’s Achievements have not gone unnoticed and she has been the recipient of various music awards including that of “Most Popular British Female Vocalist “on several occasions. Numerous Gold and Silver disc awards for outstanding record sales are further testimony to her popularity. It seems that Philomena “Queen Of Country Music” is set to reign for a while yet.
Philomena is a legend and now her son Aidan Quinn is sharing the stage with his mummy. how lucky we are to have our Queen performing with her son and both members of the Begley/Quinn family certainly know how to entertain.
