It’s fine, that those of us in the slightly older age group appreciate the Brian Colls and the Gene Stuarts, of Irish country. But the music can only survive if more young people are drawn into the fold.
Too many of them regard country, as something to be sneered at.Music of their parents time.
But country music, if it’s well performed, will survive. And Mike Denver is one of the main reasons why it will. Just as in America, country was drifting off the ‘daytime’ playlists. Then along came the Brad Paisleys and the Keith Urbans, and country became, once more, the most popular form of music.
Then a lot of those new ‘converts’ began to explore the roots of country, and so CDs by George Jones, Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash, found a new audience. So, by the same token, Brian and Gene might find a new market, due to the popularity of singers like Mike Denver.
Back to Mr Denver’s new CD. What can I say? It’s pure class.
I have no hesitation in recommending you to buy a copy.
A really well chosen selection of songs. Some old, some very new, but all good.
Included are a couple of 60’s pop songs ‘Every Time That You Walk In The Room’ and ‘Seasons In The Sun’, which are given a fresh, new treatment. ‘The Chain Of Love’, which was the title song of a recent Warren Smyth album, and to continue the Keith Urban link, ‘I Want To Be Your Man’.
For some reason, I imagine that a lot of young ladies, will feel the need to buy this album, but the guys will love it to.
