Liam Mannering

‘The New Voice of Country’

Liam Mannering was born in Dunboyne in the Royal County of Meath, where he still resides. Opportunities to perform with a band presented occasionally in his early years and kindled his interest in music.  Liam’s father James was a drummer with ‘The Starlight’s’ and it was with this band Liam commenced his singing career.  They provided a good foundation for him to gain experience playing at dinner dances, weddings and general functions throughout the Louth/Meath area. Liam’s other influence was his late mother Laura who was a talented singer and sang for many years at events in her local area.  On his ninth birthday, Liam’s parents delighted him by buying him a guitar.  With a lot of hard work and constant repetition he taught himself to play whilst listening to records and cassettes featuring the artists he liked best.

Liam’s favourite Irish artists who have influenced him are; Big Tom, Larry Cunningham, Ray Lynam and Declan Nerney and in recent years Mike Denver, Jimmy Buckley and Robert Mizzell. American artists he admires include; Merle Haggard, George Jones, Alan Jackson and George Straight.

A combination of country music and work in the construction industry has been part of Liam’s working life since leaving school.  Playing his one-man show all around Leinster and as far west as Roscommon in Bar’s and Lounges has given him valuable experience in the music business.

For almost a year he was part of a very popular two-piece with the legendary fiddle / harmonica player Charlie Arkins. Liam harboured an ambition to front his own band in time. He felt privileged during the past few years to share the stage with the top attractions on the Irish Country Music scene e.g. Mike Denver, Jimmy Buckley, Robert Mizzell and the Queen of Irish Country Music, Philomena Begley.

Liam has now taken the decision to embark on a career in country music with his own four-piece band of talented and experienced musicians. He has made the major decision to concentrate on playing in the live dancing venues throughout Ireland. He has also gone into the recording studio and recorded a new promotional single entitled ‘Home Sweet Home’. This is an original song written by Martin Byrne a Louth based singer songwriter. This recording will introduce Liam’s vocal talent and style of music to a new audience. In a very short time Liam Mannering will be a household name and one of top attractions on the dancing scene in Ireland.

The band’s programme has been especially designed with the dancing public in mind, containing a good mix of Irish and American material including jives, waltzes and foxtrots.  It’s the kind of programme that will guarantee his popularity with the dancing public.
