Tony Kerr New Album Release
CD Review

Tony Kerr Kentucky Gambler CD
Let me declare an interest right away.
Before I even listened to this CD, I wanted to like it.
The reason? Because Tony Kerr is one of the most likable people I’ve met, on the local showbiz scene.
Modesty is a rare quality, when it comes to those who have the confidence needed to walk out on that big lonely stage, and know that they have the ability to entertain an audience. But Tony has it ‘in spades’.
With the help of a terrific production by Paul McNeilly, in Ballymena, Tony has ‘come up’ with an album which stands comparison with other great albums which have been released in the last couple of years, and indeed, is better than most.
Tony has one of the best ‘country’ voices around. Dare I say better than some much ‘bigger names’ on the ‘country scene’? And he uses it to great effect on the twelve ‘country’ songs, (most of them standards) on this excellent album.
Among the less well known tracks, I was pleased to hear Tony tackle a couple of Tommy Collins songs. A great writer, too often neglected.
I also loved Tony’s versions of Tammy’s ‘Apartment Number Nine’, Alan Jackson’s ‘Chattahoochee’ and Hank’s ‘Lovesick Blues’. But it’s all down to personal opinion, and really, there’s not a weak track on the album.
I strongly advise you to look out for a copy of ‘Kentucky Gambler’, if you like good ‘country’, well performed, and well sung, you’ll be unto a winner.
This album is a ‘Royal Flush’, and proof that, sometimes, nice guys DO succeed.
Davy Kennedy.
