Reviews The New Dee Reilly Album

DEE REILLY     ‘NOTHIN’S RIGHT AND NOTHIN’S LEFT ‘      CD

There are not many singers who could tempt me into making a round trip, of well over a hundred miles,  just to catch them in a ‘live’ performance.  But after hearing a previous CD by Miss Reilly, that’s just what I did recently.  And I didn’t regret a single mile.

If you want to know why, do yourself a favour and go along to one of the venues at which Dee is appearing, on her present tour.   Failing that, grab yourself a copy of this excellent new CD.

Up tempo songs, slow sentimental songs, fun songs, this young lady can handle them all.     I remember someone once saying to me that Tammy Wynette could sing the phone book, and make it sound good.  Well it’s also a fair description of Dee Reilly’s vocal ability.

There’s a touch of Brenda Lee in Dee’s voice, on certain songs, and her phrasing is second to none.

Two of the tracks were recorded locally, and produced by Jonathan Owens, who seems incapable of making anything less than excellent recordings these days.

They include the opening song, and title track, ‘Nothin’s Right And Nothin’s Left’, written by Miss Reilley herself.

Is there no end to the girl’s talent?

The remaining ten tracks are Tennessee recordings, and include brilliant versions of, ‘I’ll Leave This World Loving You’, ‘Somewhere Tonight’, Highway 101’s nineties hit, ’Bing Bang Boom’ and a gorgeous performance of ‘Nobody Loves You Like I Do’.

If I hadn’t already been ‘sold’ on the album, then, as an unashamed Kristofferson fan, Dee’s choice of ‘Please Don’t Tell Me How The Story Ends’ to finish of this superb set, would have done it for me.

A more appropriate title for this great album, would have been ‘Everything’s Right’, because on this CD, it is.
